Day Two

This is my second day with no beer.  I only miss it when I’m operating on habit.  I do a lot of things out of habit.  Eating too much is another one.  I’m just concentrating on the beer for now.

Alcohol helps me sleep, but so do 50-mile bike rides.  I’ll try more of the rides.

  1. Alcohol might help me GO to sleep, but my body’s response once the alcohol is metabolized then causes me to awaken in the night and not be able to get back to sleep.

  2. Tom’s comment above is spot on. Alcohol does not let you get restful sleep. I am glad to hear that you are working on this bad habit, Dave. Habits can be hard to break, but certainly not impossible. In your case, the rewards will be great! Please hang in there.

P.s., we are on our honeymoon in northern California, hiking in the redwood forest. Marriage is agreeing with us!!

  3. I’m really glad you’re doing this, you just gotta stick with it. I like the plan to wear yourself out biking, rather than drinking to help you sleep. You can do it!

  4. Elizabeth,
    Awesome honeymoon! Enjoy!

    Derrick,
Yep, the plan is the “new bike fund”. It’s also the “fix up old bike fund” – as my single-speed rebirth shows.

  5. You’ve got a really good plan. I love the taste of a good beer, but all but gave it up several years ago, and find that I don’t really miss it now. As far as sleep is concerned, in addition to what others have said, don’t overdo it so that you’re hurting at night. I’m also looking at a book called Fast Exercise by Micheal Mosley, which has some pretty unique, but not unheard of, concepts in it for both fitness and weight loss.
    Best of luck.

  6. You’re doing good Dave. I struggle with my drinking and I know it’s a problem. As far as sleep I am pretty tired all the time so while I do pass out pretty quick, I doubt I’m getting quality sleep. Reward yourself!
