More Lifestyle Changes

All I’ve posted about recently has been bikes and beer.  My life is changing.

I won’t be giving up bikes, but beer is a maybe.  My doctor has said I need to cut back.  Diane says I need to cut back.  I’ve started weighing myself daily and tracking my calories again – and I need to cut back on the beer.

Something else has come up.  I’ve resigned my position at work.  My last day will be 11/27/2013.  I’ve been there five years.  Things need a change.

I resigned without having another job lined up.  This is either a motivational tool, or just plain stupid, depending on your point of view.  I don’t yet know if I’ll get another IT job, or take a pay cut and do something more interesting.  The pay cut route would mean less beer – because I don’t like cheap beer.

Either way, the bike will remain an important part of my life.  I’ll continue to remain car-free, even if Diane doesn’t.

  1. Wow, that’s a bold move! I hope you find another job soon, maybe even something more interesting.

As someone who has been job-hunting since the beginning of May (and still hasn’t found a job), I can’t help but think you’re a little crazy. But then, I’ve always known that about you, anyway.

Best of luck! Do you have any ideas for other directions you might try, other than IT?

  2. Yes, I am a tad on the crazy side.

I have no real ideas for a non-IT job, other than pipe dreams that don’t pay well (bike shop?)

Maybe I should play the lottery – or stand outside during a thunderstorm. 🙂

  3. That’s how you do it. Sometimes a bold move can pay off big time. Change always seems to spice things up. I’ve been at my current job for 14 years and I feel like a mindless robot at times. I’m jealous but good luck!

  4. It sounds kind of odd to say it, but I’m glad you decided to ditch your existing job. I think it was definitely reaching a point where it was way more of a grind than the paycheck could justify, and doing you more harm than good.

I’m looking forward to seeing what your next adventure has in store for you (beyond, of course, less beer)!

  5. Whoa, dude. I’m with Apertome, that is a bold move! I hope it pays off for you. As an engineer, I’m more of a belt-plus-suspenders guy. That means I miss out on some really cool stuff sometimes. So go find some really cool stuff.

  6. Wow David! That’s wonderful! One door closes and others will open for you. My last day is December 26 (after 17 years), and I don’t have anything lined up after that either. So I have to stay positive. 🙂
Of course my reasons for leaving my job are different, but I hope you find something you like!
