Weekly Average Weight for May 30, 2009

My average weight for the week ending 5/30/2009:
201.5 lbs

Down from last week:
2.0 lbs

Down since I started on 10/31/2007:
94.9 lbs

My average loss per 30 days since 10/31/2007:
4.93 lbs

Weight until goal:
26.5 lbs

My last two weigh-ins have been just under 200 lbs.  My weight will probably pop back above 200 lbs for a day or two, but I’m comfortable saying that my next weekly average, and my June monthly average will be under 200.

I’ve done this by eating very light on days that I don’t ride my bike, and eating more food on days that I do.  I’ve ridden a little over 100 miles for the week so far, and still have two more days to ride if I want.

  1. Great stats! 2 lbs. lost in a week is wonderful when a person is getting closer to goal, as you are.

I’ve been getting a lot of exercise planting a couple of new shrubs. I had to dig a two large holes, which took a lot of work. I started my weight loss journey on May 2, so it’s been just about a month. I am down 14-1/2 lbs, and I feel a lot better already. I have a long way to go, one day at a time!

Enjoy your cycling, I hope you have nice weather — the weather is gorgeous in Chicago today.

  2. Thanks!

Useful work (like planting shrubs) is the best exercise. That why I switched from the elliptical to a bicycle last year. I can accomplish something (travel) and get exercise at the same time.

The bicycle has it’s limitations though. It doesn’t help the upper body at all.

Those double digit losses in the first month or two feel incredible, but remember that pace is not sustainable. I’m now averaging about 5 lbs per 30 days.

Stick with it, and you will totally transform your body and feel much better.

I didn’t ride yesterday. I hope to ride today but I’ve got a ton of stuff around the house to do. I’ll probably squeeze in an hour though. I’ll also ride to run a few errands here in town.

  3. Well done David its a milestone getting under that 200 llbs, i’m 13 llbs off it yet but it will come, although this weekend has been nice so ive had bbq and beer and went to wales today to the beach and had ice cream !!! back on the diet tomorrow though and hopefully get out on my bike at work which is always good being paid for cycling.

  4. Mark,

I don’t “diet”. I just try to eat reasonably and track everything I eat. I’ve had ice cream, beer, pizza, and other things recently. I just can’t do that every day.

Today is a beautiful day for riding here, but I’m spending the day running errands (on the bike), working on the bikes, and cleaning house.

I’ll be riding Nermal (my upright bike) to work tomorrow, and that bike needed some cleaning, chain lube, and new brake pads before another commute.

  5. To lose 5 lbs. per month is exactly what I am hoping for, and I will be very satisfied with that rate of loss. I think I’ll be able to eat plenty of healthy food every day and still lose at that rate, because I do get some exercise in my commute to work. I work in downtown Chicago, and I walk to the METRA train on both ends, and it’s about 2.5 miles of walking per day.

I am envious that you can ride your bike on errands and feel safe doing it. I don’t like riding on city streets, too many cars going way too fast!
