Not Bad for a Monday

Today’s weather is the epitome of a beautiful Spring day.  It turned out to be a good day for me, other than spending a good portion of it at work.

I needed to drive to work due to running some errands before work, so I couldn’t ride, but I am enjoying my new truck.

After work I had some housework to do, and I cooked a steak on the grill.  I sat on my front porch with the dogs and ate dinner.  After washing the dishes and messing around on the computer, I decided to go for a bike ride.

I didn’t leave on the bike until after 10:00 p.m.  The wind had calmed significantly, but the clouds were rolling in.  It is supposed to rain later tonight.

The night air was full of the sounds and smells of the countryside at night.  I startled a possum eating something on the side of the road.  I had to outrun two dogs.  I saw two cars during the whole ride, once getting out of town.

My 600 lumens worth of headlight did a decent job of showing the road, unless I was traveling more than 25 MPH.  600 lumens is a lot for a bicycle, but nothing compared to a pair of car headlights.

I was riding Nermal, so I wasn’t expecting to be all that fast, but I averaged 14.4 MPH on my 11 mile loop.  Not to shabby for a quick jaunt in the hilly countryside.

  1. Sounds like a fantastic evening. I remember when I could do that and I look forward to doing it again in the future.

  2. I love my evening and night rides. Find that deserted part of town and just pedaling and enjoying it. Maybe run down to the ice cream shack for a twist cone.

  3. that’s funny that you got out for an evening ride. So did I. I did about 8m leaving at 9.00, but my avg was slower. I told you you have good legs right now.

  4. It was a great night for a ride. I wasn’t able to ride to work Monday or Tuesday due to other obligations.

The terrain on the ride is rather hilly. I’ve ridden it many times, but it had been a while, so I had forgotten how hilly it is.

The possum didn’t bother me, he just jumped a little as I approached. The chasing dogs worried me much more, as it was dark, and I couldn’t tell if they were friendly or not.

Today, Wednesday, I’m driving to work again. Not because I have to, but because I’m in pain and haven’t been sleeping well. I’ll write about that before long.
