I installed fenders on my recumbent not long ago. I also ordered some better tires that are slightly wider. The bike was in the shop getting everything adjusted one day last week. I installed the new tires today, and took the bike outside for a few “beauty shots”.
I also took a quick ride around the neighborhood. The new tires do give a bit smoother of a ride. They make a bit more noise because they actually have tread. The old tires were “city tires”. These new ones can handle rougher terrain, even a bit of dirt if necessary.
I did remove my safety triangle a while back. I need a better way to mount it.

Just found your blog, keep up the good work. My wife and I just bought bikes, it had been about 20 years for both of us. We are looking to loose a few pounds ourself.
Riding to work for me is out, I work in New Albany right down the road from you, but live 35 miles away.
I plan to check back often, I love what you are doing, hope you make it all winter!
I have thought about that, I have a few things to work out.
I don’t relish the idea of leaving my truck unatended all day somewhere along the way.
I have considered calling “ticket to ride” to see if they might be willing to add a bike rack to their van. I would be able to cut my driving commute to about a third of what it is now, but I would have to work with their timetable, that could be an issue…
I may bring the bike to work with me and ride to lunch, that would be something.
Thanks for the encouragment.
Mark,
Riding all the way to work may be out for you, but it was for me when I started also.
You could put your bike on your car, and park somewhere, and ride the remaining distance. That’s how I started.
That said, a 70-mile round-trip probably isn’t doable, but you could get a few miles in.
The bike is looking great!! That extra sound you hear.. besides being tread.. is the sound of more resistance.. thus.. it’s taking more pounds off every revolution of the tire… when you’re annoyed at how some hill just won’t end.. think of a mantra to keep your legs going.. Mine used to be, “girls like nice legs”… my legs have never been nice.. and never will (a Tijuana working girl said I have chicken legs.. but she may have been upset that I wasn’t buying)
.. the mantra needs a good rhythm… like.. “pounds will come off..”.. or somethin..
sorry.. just ramblin’ as I catch up on your blog!
