Yesterday’s RCCS ride killed my rear wheel. Okay, I did it hitting a pothole. It’s a low-quality wheel, and I’m still over 200 lbs, and I shouldn’t be riding through potholes.
Anyway, Schellers is open on Sundays, so I drove there. They are one of the more expensive places to get things fixed, but they’ve always treated me well.
While I was waiting on my wheel, I bought some more chain lube, another spare tube, an Incredibell, and a bar-end mirror. I have a helmet mirror, but I wanted to give this mirror a chance.
So my quick trip to Schellers cost me over $60. So much for reeling in my spending.

Schwag is always good, even if you bought it from Schellers. Have a great commuting week.
Bike toys are great fun. I hope to to ride a lot this week. It’s going to be a bit colder than I like for the morning commute, but I’ll be on my bike.
btw… if you don’t want to give away your secret, don’t post about it on someone else’s blog.
So, now there are three that know.
I tried a handlebar mirror once. I found that the helmet mirror is far superior. Using the handlebar mirror is tough–if you want to see something other than the limited field of view, you have to be a contortionist. If you want to move your field of view with a helmet-mounted mirror, you simply turn your head.
I’ll see if I can find a replacement axle for your front hub. We’ll talk about the rest of the stuff on the wheels.
Tom,
I tried one of those velcro-around-the-handlebar mirrors before, and it was horrible. I’m not giving up my helmet mirror, I’d actually prefer to have both. If I like this one, I’ll buy another for the ‘bent.
